I love opening a book, crawling in and leaving reality for an hour or two or three or.... Traveling the world through the pages of author's minds is entertainment reader's like myself are privy to and I am glad to say no one needs a passport nor a membership card to enjoy these travels.

The Omega Formula carried me up and down the eastern coastline of the United States and into the Midwest with unexpected splashes of Atlantic seawater.

When I first read the synopsis and the blurbs for this novel, the question I asked myself, "A detective caper, Mmm, is he (Frank Dugan) going to be another LAPD Detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch? or..."

I wanted to read The Omega Formula with Paul's voice as a writer as my main character and turns out this multi-twist can't-put-it-down mystery page turner claims little to this outstanding read. Frank Dugan with his brazen come-backs to his enemies (foreign and domestic) is a detective you want working for you. Frank is in his own class and his class is in session - he will get his answers come hell or high water.

Frank's father, Joe, is being harassed (putting it lightly) to remember what his father, William, was working on for the government during World War II by two men wearing Michael Myers masks in his own home. They worked Joe over pretty damn good ..."I'm not telling you squat," Joe said and closed his eyes.

Even though there was a sadness in Frank's heart that his father had died due to cardiac arrest, according to Jennifer Melton at St. Luke's Hospital in Baltimore, mourning was not on his list as he asked for some time off to Sheriff Roland Brand. In fact, Frank hated the sonofabitch.

A thousand miles away from Baltimore, Frank Dugan at the Martin County Sheriff's Department in Stuart, Florida was contemplating his agonizing future of heading to Baltimore to settle the estate and get the bastard in the ground as soon as possible.

Arriving in Baltimore Frank meets his former partner Alasdair MacGowan and is taken aback a bit when he learns Alasdair got married. Celine MacGowan had worked for the NSA for over ten years and, a hell of a cook by the way, is Alasdair's everything - charmimg, beautiful, and intelligent.

Frank goes to the the morgue at St. Luke's hospital to ID his father and being a bit of an expert on needle marks, asks "Does the emergency room give injections behind the ear?" "My God," the young technician says under his breath.

Can anyone say autopsy?

Frank and Alasdair head to Joe's place and do their own investigation of the crime scene. William, Frank's grandfather, has had the pleasure of putting Frank on an endless course of figuring out "puzzles" throughout his life and coming across a few puzzles overlooked by CSI, Alasdair and Frank learn of a safe room hidden beneath the garage. They find a manila file labeled The Omega Formula and an old 6-inch movie reel nearly full of film. Celine can convert this into digital format.

Now folks, this film shows a devastation that could only render the greatest fear and complete capitulation one could give to the possessor. Your white flag would fly before your next thought. No wonder Joe went to his grave withholding this secret. And no wonder why the Michael Myer twins wanted it.

The secret lies hidden somewhere in America and it's only a matter of time before William's final? puzzle gets figured out and hopefully in the right hands. The structure and plausible scenes moved seamlessly as I was entrapped into Paul's central theme. A knowledge of the most powerful weapon ever known and in itself was the keystone for the end of the war.

Characters were well developed and described in a believable manner. There are situations throughout this novel, as they play out, are exactly what one would do.

This harrowing novel Paul Sekulich has written has actual facts and artifacts pertaining to the war with Japan and ultimately their surrender and he took great care in conveying what he could bend into fiction and what he shouldn't, leaving authenticity in its rightful place. Examples would be the silk maps that were relatively impervious to water damage used by airmen in World War II , the large Helvetica "R" on the tail of the Enola Gay, why Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the targets and how he bent some thought on those photographs on board the U.S.S. Missouri; in particularly one civilian there among all those military personnel.

I have had the pleasure of talking with Paul Sekulich on the phone one evening and he is adamant in making sure the places and situations are true to the reader. I have always voiced myself on the appreciation authors take to do their homework for a believable read.

Believable? Frank finds himself in a dark and humid situation where you'll find yourself slowly shaking your head back and forth while wearing a grin saying, "Oh Frank, what now will ..." Hell it's almost comical but I can see it happening with what/who Frank is dealing with. Aye, believable.

The ending ties all loose ends up neatly and coherently including all "clues" left by William, or, wait a sec ... all clues?

The Omega Formula grabbed me with an explosion of satisfaction and I thank you Paul for inquiring if your music teacher in your younger days was relation. A wonderful read. You have a hell of a character here and I am looking forward to read more of Detective Frank Dugan.

Folks, I highly recommend this read to all you detective thriller readers. You will not be disappointed on any page.
And for those who are not, you will absolutely love how Frank gets his answers ... I did.

Anna Patrick
Being sucked into the rabbit's hole with Elizabeth is a psychological dystopian twist on the classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Anna Patrick told an artistic tale of a twenty-four-year-old interior designer by the name of Elizabeth. A young woman who resides in Brooklyn, New York with her boyfriend Adam and their French bulldog, Fitz, having a personal complex of inner demons amounting in her.

Elizabeth sits every morning for her ritual morning meditations before work and on this particular morning, she wants to confront her demons head-on. These inner conflicts, that she even keeps secret from her boyfriend, takes her on a journey I believe all of us can relate to in one way or the other.

Elizabeth started to meditate and saw her own rabbit hole open up in front of her. As she fell deeper into the abyss of her soul she saw her childhood doll Alice. Just a glimpse is all before Alice rounded a corner and out of sight.

Welcome to Wonderland - catch me if you can, bitch.  -Alice

Elizabeth chases Alice through Wonderland from clues Alice leaves and runs into characters we all know - the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the Tweedle Twins and finally, no spoiler, Alice. Anna Patrick's writing provoked thoughts with each character playing a role related to the over all theme of the story. Beautiful writing.

This tale has shown we wear masks for societies sake as well as our own and after taking a look at ones-self there are definitely dark sides as well as the light sides with, of course, splashes of grey.  It is a journey of self-acceptance. A very thought provoking tale. Loved how Anna Patrick described and brought Elizabeth's inner self to life.

Ms. Patrick's use of the original classic tale and twisting it into her thought on this tale - there are so many topics we could discuss in this story: drug addiction, madness, reality, relationships, self-worth, symbolism, comparisons to Lewis Carroll's version, how the subconscious effect/affect our conscious, behavior - the list could continue. There is so much in this quick read. You just have to sit one weekend and indulge into the rabbit hole. I do insist folks; you will not be disappointed.

This tale was an enjoyable read. The pace was not rushed though there were places that seemed to drag a bit, but really, no biggie. Elizabeth keeps going and so will you as you turn the pages to find out if Elizabeth finds what she is after. The ending with that twist is personally satisfying.

A wonderful debut where you will find yourself chasing Elizabeth as she chases Alice through Wonderland. Readers will take away from this read above all - awareness of reflection.

Recommend you ask? Yes. Yes I do.

George Henry
What an excellent read for thrill seekers! A non-stop action packed read. Milo Marchetti, the main character, is a Canadian Military Intelligence sharp-shooter who turned musician and is co-owner of The Blue Note music club in Trieste, Italy - and has his hands full.

The prologue sets the stage for this page turner - Milo kills a Taliban leader and his family in revenge for the loss of his own family.

Adara, a beautiful Muslim woman enters his blues club and soon a confrontation erupts with these 'goons' picking on his customer. After kicking this guys' ass, Milo finds out later it was only her brother and a couple of his side-kicks protecting her from this so-called sleazy bar.

Well, Milo has problems now. Adara is the daughter of a local crime boss, Mohammed Nasim. The Serpent was pretty impressed at what happened in the bar, so, he offers Milo a deal he should/would/could not decline - hires Milo to keep an eye on his daughter as a bodyguard and with her brother having his ego and pride hurt, tries to frame him for a series of hooker murders. And there's the cop who’s convinced of Milo’s guilt for these murders. There's also the Taliban leader’s Muslim brother who has been selected and contracted to marry Adara. Milo has problems.

On top of all this, Milo's ex-boss Margret Brooke in the military intelligence is peeved for quitting on her in Afghanistan. The Mazzola's, a rival to the Nasim's, enter into his nightmare when Adara and his life are threatened. This read is non-stop total jammin' on every page.

The plot is tight. Let me clarify here, very well thought out and very very plausible. The ending is as exciting as the beginning as well as the middle of the story. And the ending satisfied me with anticipation. Anticipation? yep. Very good read and I can say sequel ... or movie adaptation first?

George Henry had incorporated song titles and mentions musicians by name throughout and I enjoy seeing how some songs and their lyrics go hand-in-hand with a tale.
As I look at my notes here, Mr. Henry takes you traveling - Italy, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Kandahar, Afghanistan, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Lake Bled and Mostar to name a few. His descriptions of the geography, buildings, food, and people were appreciated and on point.

Characters did develop dynamically and this makes for a great read in my taste. Personable to the point where you are right there alongside them in their endeavors. Well maybe you won't beside Nasim poolside, whoa.

This novel is part thrill, part sexy/romance, part humor, part ... no, all action packed. There was not a dull moment anywhere in this novel other than what I felt was repetitive  - the constant metaphors. Seems to me that metaphors should 'sprinkle' the tale rather than, on every other page, explain to the reader what the situation is compared to. Readers have vivid imaginations. Mr. Henry's writing covered the reader's interest for a great tale right off the rip, so there was no need. I would rather have had the tale sprinkled.

Thank you George for an excellent read.

Highly recommended for action packed thrill seekers. Seriously folks.

Ransom Riggs
Boy I tell you folks, this young-adult debut was not what I expected from one of the most scare reads of all according to talk, gossip, and being in the top of its genre. What I expected never had any bearing to my newly found adventure.

What Ransom Riggs did was floor me on the concept. And then add supreme writing into a horror fantasy filled paranormal read it ended up being a hauntingly good time.

The various photographs found along the way of his trek through life and employing them into a One of the Most Enjoyable Reads in a Long Ass Time tale, my hat is off with a proffered bow and I thank you Mr. Riggs.
Smashing bow-tie by the way.

One of the many things I took away from this novel it is a great read for deciding to fight your demons and get out from under the protectiveness of mom's apron and get on with life. Time does not stand still...or? Good discussion.

Sixteen-year-old Jacob Portman goes through a traumatic encounter from the death of his grandfather. The way he died, where he died and with Grandpa Portman's dieing words still fresh upon his memory ... " Go to the island, Yakob. Here it's not safe."... "Find the bird. In the loop. On the other side of the old man's grave. September third, 1940." "Emerson-the letter... Jacob nodded but did not understand. Grandpa fades.

After numerous times seeing his psychiatrist, Dr. Golan, and countless nightmares he ventures onto a journey. To a remote island off the coast of Wales to the orphan home his grandfather lived as a child. Hopefully to find answers.

Jacob does come across the old dilapidated home with the help of the sickest rapping duo in Wales, Emcee Worm and Sturgeon Surgeon. They showed the way but, only so far. Jacob continues on his quest and soon, before him, was the home where his grandfather spoke so highly of standing there  cloaked in a fog; holding his answers? (This writing here at this point is on point.) As Jacob roamed the hallways and rooms he really wasn't sure of what he wanted to find. Some old box full of letters? Box of photos? A....?

He finds a hell of a lot more. Jacob finds an old trunk and after quite the consideration of how to open it without any damage - to the inside contents included, he shoves it off the second story balcony. Now while going through the contents of what once a beautiful trunk, he hears noise above him and peering over the floor edge were children of a peculiar nature. Almost familial but not. That's the type of writing Ransom Riggs gives you.

Ransom Riggs takes the reader onto a haunted thrill from here. If you enjoy reading, Ransom's pace of escalating the beginning of a tale to explaining all 'loose-ends' being explained the right moment to a decisive end leaves his tale with you for quite the time. His whole delivery was a very enjoyable read.

His characters are picture perfect; pun is included.

Emma, Bronwyn, Enoch, Millard and all the rest from Miss Pergrine's care. The hollowgast, wights, ymbrynes and if you had the pleasure in reading this novel, even the name Malthus is also what I consider picture perfect.

Emma's growth as a character was the one for me that stood out. Her mortified chase in the beginning, her brush of the back of her hand against Jacob's, her decision at the end of the novel. Great character, yet not my favorite. Thinkin' the bartender.

Ransom describes each dressed to the part. Manners, voice, attitudes were all individualized and if you would find yourself walking into the Priest's Hole, you'd be able to tell who's who. The same as you would feel being in Miss Peregrine's home.

Jumping back and forth, Ransom Riggs segues Jacobs time into a haunted fantasy filled realization of living in an infinite loop state of being versus continuing life as it should.  Turns out he's just like his grandpa. The writing had me.

There's a storm a-brewing and your up north on a remote island off of Wales' coastline. Mr. Riggs has you there literally feeling the elements both physical and during at that time in the novel, those visceral dealings Jacob is going through. Simply folks, love it when an author takes me on a vacation somewhere in the world and I am right there along with the moments enjoying the view.

There is a lot to cover in this book actually and surmising it all into a relatively quick review would not at all do any justice for the work of Mr.Riggs' tale. I hit on a couple points, though could you imagine where you would go discussing this novel? Quite suitable for an endless loop of book club discussions, I will add. As when I stated above, one of the over all experiences one may get from reading this young adult ... is you have to cut the apron strings sooner or later. Face your Demons and keep that foot going forward knowing very dire situations of life are out there.

I would like to give a special thanks and an appreciation toward all the folk who were kind enough to allow Ranson Riggs pepper his tale with their photographs Jacob comes across to help tell the tale.

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children delivers a haunting journey with Jacob, his father, his father's father, their acquaintances both bad and good, and Jacob's new friends.

Heck, recommended this book to your friends folks. Seriously.
